We began the new module on Friday of last week. This module includes commutative and distributive properties, combining like terms, translating from verbal expressions to mathematical expressions, perimeter, area, exponents, and Pythagorean theorem.

August 25: We took a quick skills check on distributive property and went on to learning about translating.

August 26: We played a fun Bingo game using translating skills.

August 27: We reviewed for tomorrow's quiz. We anticipate testing on Module 2 around the middle of next week.

Algebra I Week of August 17 through August 21

August 17, 2015: We started with a five minute drill on subtraction. We took notes on adding and subtracting integers, and added the pages to our Interactive Notebooks. We practiced adding and subtracting integers with a Kuta worksheet.

August 18, 2015: We started with a five minute drill on multiplication. We reviewed some of the more difficult problems from the Kuta worksheet that combined multiple skills such as adding fractions and decimals as well as positive and negative integers. We then took notes on multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers and added the page to our interactive notebook. Next, we played an interactive game called Milling to the Music which gave us practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. We added a page to our interactive notebook on operation vocabulary. Finally,we completed the first three word problems on the homework worksheet. Please give the rest of the word problems a try and come to class with questions and concerns.

August 19, 2015: Today we worked in groups to prepare for the Module 1 Assessment.

Welcome back to school!

I'm excited for a new year in Wheeler's amazing ESOL program. This is my fifth year as an ESOL teacher at Wheeler. I have taught many subjects at Wheeler, including IEL, 10th Literature, 12th Literature, Algebra, and U.S. History. For the 2015-2016 school year, I will be teaching Algebra I and U.S. History. I hope this blog is a valuable resource to both students and parents.
