ESOL American Literature (11th Lit) Week of August 28 - Sept 1

We are working toward writing the Embedded Assessment #1 essay, Defining an American. We will begin this early in the week and will complete it before the end of the week. Remember to include in your essay the four ways to define an intangible term: function, negation, exemplification, and classification.

ESOL World Literature (10th Lit) Week of August 28 - September 1

We are working toward completing Embedded Assessment #2 for Unit 1 early next week. Keep in mind that the activities and readings that we are working on are to help you with that assessment. We are also going to start a Fantasy Football Vocabulary competition with the other 10th Lit classes theis week. We will form teams on Monday.
Last week, we learned about allusion, colons, semi-colons, and dashes. We also talked about the introductory paragraph of an essay including the hook, background information, introducing your specific topic, and the thesis statement.

World History Week of August 28 - September 1

We will finish Unit 3 on the Byzantine Empire, Mongol Empire, Islam, and Africa this week. As of now, the test is planned for Thursday, August 31. We still have to take notes on Africa, and we have a few other learning activities as well. I will post the link for the Review Game by Tuesday.

American Literature Week of August 21 - 25

We are soon approaching Embedded Assessment #1, the definition essay which will be due Monday, August 28. We will be learning some specific writing skills such as proper MLA formatting, the hook, the thesis statement, and the SOAPSTone method of organizing. We will continue to work in Unit 1 in the Springboard textbook in preparation for this assessment.

World Literature Week of August 21 - 25

We will be working on specific writing skills such as proper MLA formatting, the hook, and the thesis statement. We will continue to work on Unit 1 from the textbook to prepare for Embedded Assessment #2, the synthesis essay.

World History Week of August 21 - 25

We start Unit 3 this week. Monday was basically a free day since 0 students showed up. Hope you all enjoyed the eclipse. Tuesday we began the unit by assigning Mining the Standards to groups. On Wednesday, we will write definitions from the other groups and complete notes on Byzantium, Russia, and the Mongols. We will continue for the rest of the week  with notes and activities related to the unit.

ESOL American Lit (11th Lit)

We will continue talking about the American Dream in preparation to complete Embedded Assessment #1, the extended definition of the American Dream. On Wednesday, we will take the first Touchstone test on I-Respond.

ESOL World Lit (10th Lit) Week of August 14 - 18

We will continue to learn about Culture in preparation to complete Embedded Assessment #1 on Wednesday. You will also get access to the online version of the book this week.

World History Week of August 14 - 18

We will continue to study Ancient Greece and Rome, with a final test on Friday. On Monday, we will complete the Frayer Model project before jumping into learning more about Greek philosophers. I will add the link to the review game on Wednesday.

ESOL American Literature (11th Lit) Week of August 7 - 11

Welcome back to Wheeler High School. It was great to see all of you last week. We worked on an introductory unit that involved a business style letter of introduction, annotation, and imagery. On Friday, we jumped into the new Springboard textbook by completing Exercise 1.1.

This week we will continue to  move forward in the textbook as we prepare to write the definition essay about the American Dream.

ESOL World Literature (10th Lit) Week of August 7 - 11

Welcome back to Wheeler High School. Last week, we worked on an introductory unit that focused on annotation and archetypes, specifically focusing on the hero's journey.

We will begin the first unit in the textbook on Culture this week. The first Assessment for this unit will be August 16.

ESOL World History Week of August 7 - 11, 2017

Welcome back to Wheeler High School. We jumped into our first unit last week and the first test is Tuesday, August 8. Study notes and be familiar with Mining the Standards terms and questions.
