ESOL American Literature Week of September 18 - 22

Be prepared to work hard on the Summative Essay this week. It is due on Friday. We will continue to read from the Springboard textbook and work on the essay piece by piece this week. We will finish Unit 1 on Friday, and start Unit 2 when you come back from the Fall Break.

ESOL World Literature Week of September 18 - 22

We just began Unit 2 in the Springboard textbook and will continue to work through it. The vocabulary test will be on Tuesday this week. We will also really dive into The House on Mango Street.

ESOL World History Week of September 18 - 22

Great job on the Unit 4 test. If you didn't turn in the Unit 5 Word Wall words on Friday, make sure you do it on Monday. Everyone turned them in for Unit 4, so this seems to be a success. We will be talking about the Reformation and the Renaissance for Unit 5. Since we lost 2 days last week, I'm not sure how we will alter the schedule. I'll keep you posted about the timeline after the World History teachers meet on Tuesday.

We will have the Part 1 test over just the Renaissance and Humanism on Friday, Sept. 22. It will be 20 questions. The Kahoot also covers the Reformation. The Flipquiz only covers whats on Unit 5 Part 1 Test

ESOL World Literature (10th Grade Literature) Week of September 11 - 15

The student who kept insisting that we would get time off for the hurricane was right. We have Monday and Tuesday off, which changes the dates of assignments and quizzes. The Vocab 2 quiz will be Wednesday instead of Monday. We will begin Unit 2 on the persuasive argument on Wednesday as well. I found a great internet game that teaches about the persuasive argument. Here is the code to enter the game.

So we get Monday and Tuesday off for Hurricane Irma. That, of course, will change all of the dates that we had planned. We still need to finish EA#2, the Synthesis Essay, before our September break. When you come back to school on Wednesday, we will do an activity from the Springboard textbook on the Declaration of Independence. There is a common formative assessment, in the form of a quiz, associated with this activity. We will also continue to learn about writing an argumentative essay.

ESOL World History Week of September 11 - 15

Since we have Monday and Tuesday off, our test will no longer be on Wednesday; it will now be on Friday, September 15. I have already included the link to the Review Kahoot. We will finish and review Unit 4 on Wednesday and Thursday. Good work on your 100 Years' War posters.

American Literature (11th Lit) Week of September 5 - 8

The Definition of an American essay is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday. Several of you did not turn in the "Pink Houses" Annotation, and since it was the only grade in Speaking/Listening, it dropped your grades considerably. Turn those in for credit. We will continue to work through Unit 1, by focusing on the Declaration of Independence, and reading other writings that focus on the American Dream. We will finish "The Great Gatsby" movie this week and complete some quickwrites about how it speaks to the idea of the American Dream.

ESOL World Literature (10th Lit) Week of September 5 - 8

This short week will be a busy week. Tuesday is the Vocab Quiz for the Vocabulary Football League competition. Wednesday will be the Unit 1 Summative Assessment, and we will complete the collaborative writing assignment by Friday. Also, this is the end of the first grading period, so be prepared to receive progress reports next week.

ESOL World History Week of September 5 - 8

We took the Unit 3 test on Friday, and many of you did very well on it. The key to success seems to be paying attention during the reviews and playing the games posted on my blog. We started Unit 4, The Middle Ages, on Thursday. Be sure and turn in your Word Wall words on Tuesday. This will be the Mining the Standards activity for this unit.
