ESOL US History Week of November 11 - 15

We will be focusing on the domestic developments in the last half of the 20th century this week. We will cover the Civil Rights movement, the Women's Movement, etc. We will have an open-note quiz on Friday. Next week, we will combine some of the events since 2000 with some EOC prep. The Domain 6 Test will be Friday, November 22.

ESOL World Lit Week of October 28 - Nov 1

We will finish Persepolis on Monday. On Tuesday, we will go to the Computer Lab to begin working on the research paper. The test over Persepolis will be on Friday, November 1. We will also begin Unit 3 in Springboard this week. I'm posting a link to the Unit 1 Kahoot because several of you failed the Unit 1 test. I'm going to have those who failed it retake it on Wednesday. If you failed it before, the maximum grade is 80. If you are taking it for the first time (Alicia and Jaime) you can get full credit.

ESOL American Lit Week of October 21 - 25

This week, we are focusing on whether America allows access to the American Dream for immigrants. We are focusing on immigrants who came through Ellis Island in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We will complete this section by writing a body paragraph for our essay.

ESOL US History Week of October 21 - 25

This week is all about the Great Depression. We took notes on the Great Depression, completed a fun simulation about the Depression, and watched America:Story of Us-Bust. We will have a quiz on Friday, and finish this unit next week by studying WWII.

We will begin Domain 5 about World War I, the Great Depression, and World War II on Monday. This will be a three week unit, with quizzes on October 18 and October 25 and the Domain test on November 1.

ESOL American Lit Week of September 16 - 20

We will finish the Speech unit this week by focusing on writing the speeches. I gave everyone one resource to use for the topic you picked. You need to have the outline completed before you go to the Computer Lab Wednesday and Thursday to type the speech. We will also have a Touchstone that compares the Declaration of Independence and MLK's  "I Have a Dream" Speech. This touchstone will count as a grade.

ESOL US History Week of September 9 - 13

We will be learning about the American Civil War this week. We will finish the notes on the Civil War as well as working on several activities about the war. The quiz over the Civil War will be on Friday.

ESOL World Literature Week of September 9 - 13

We will continue reading selections from Springboard Unit 2A and the graphic novel, Persepolis. On Monday, we will be in the computer lab to work on your narratives. If I haven't gotten your Cultural Identity Essay yet, your grade is showing it. This week is the end of the grading period, so get the essays in ASAP. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday over the Unit 2 narrative terms.

We will begin Domain 3 on Tuesday with the Antebellum notes. There will be a quiz on Friday over the Antebellum notes.

ESOL World Literature Week of September 3 - 6

We will begin Unit 2 on Tuesday by learning some background information about Persepolis and beginning to read it. There will be Chapter questions for each chapter.

ESOL American Lit Week of September 3 - 6

We will finish with The Crucible Unit on Tuesday by taking the Act IV test and finishing Zootopia. There will be a Quickwrite comparing the "witchhunt" in Zootopia to the events in The Crucible.

We will be working on Domain 1, Colonization through the American Revolution, for two weeks. We will have a quiz on colonization on Friday, August 9 and the Domain test over the whole domain will be Friday, August 16. On Monday, we will begin the Colonization Cloze notes and continue working on the Colonization rotation project.

ESOL US History Week of May 4 - 10

Monday is the last day to prepare for the EOC. Remember, if you want extra credit for the EOC prep packets, they need to be turned in by Monday afternoon. Also, USAtestprep has many, many!!!!! assignments you can do to prepare for the EOC. After the EOC, we will be watching movies that are related to US History. I will provide more opportunities to get extra credit relating to the movies. On Wednesday, May 15, my father and his friend will come to speak to us about the Vietnam War.

We will continue reading Their Eyes Were Watching God  as well as beginning the movie. As long as people are using class time wisely to work on the multi-genre research project, I will give time in class. I will teach you about APA style as well.

ESOL World Literature Week of May 6 - 10

Monday we will have a regular class with a teacher and students again. Yay!! Be prepared to work. You will need to turn in the Independent Reading Tic-Tac-Toe from last week. We will work on Unit 4 from Springboard and I will give you another Tic-Tac-Toe for this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I will be proctoring the EOC for US History during 1st block, so you will again be without a teacher. Work on week 2 Tic-Tac-Toe. Thursday and Friday, we will begin discussing the final and continuing with excerpts from Unit 4.

ESOL US History Week of April 29 - May 3


We will be working on EOC prep until the EOC on May 7 and 8, which gives us 6 days. Each day, you will be responsible for a Study Guide. I will give extra credit for completed Study Guides, but only if you finish them before the EOC. I would suggest that you work in small groups and divide and conquer. I am fine with collaborative work, but not with one person doing all of the work and others copying.

I will be doing EOC proctoring during 1st block Monday - Wednesday. I will put a sign on my door telling you which room to go to. I know that Monday is room 2042. Work on the Independent Reading project I assigned. On Friday, the project for Week 1 is due. You will only have Monday - Wednesday to work on it in class, so I would advise working rather than playing.

ESOL US History Week of March 11 - 15

We are marching right along with the other US History classes. We will begin Domain 5, covering the time period of World War 1 through World War II. This will be a three week unit that will end the Friday before Spring Break. This is always one of the most interesting units, but of course, it is filled with a huge amount of information. There will be a quiz over World War I this Friday.

We will begin our three week unit on the American Dream this week. We will begin the week by unpacking the Embedded Assessment which is a synthesizing essay about the question, Does America still provide access to the American Dream? We will have time to complete the essay in the computer lab. In this essay, it will be necessary for you to include evidence from several other readings that we will do in class from our Springboard books.

This week, we will be concentrating on Unit 2B which is Argumentative Writing and on finishing Persepolis. On Thursday, we have time in the Computer Lab to begin your Argument Essays. We have a total of two days in the lab to complete them. The lessons this week will focus on writing an argument and on reading passages that demonstrate argument and persuasion.
