World Literature Week of February 6 - 10

Access testing is over! We lost 3 days to Access testing, so we need to jump  back in on Monday. We will definitely be starting The House on Mango Street this week. We will finish up with Gilgamesh, and read about the flood story from the Old Testament of the Bible and compare the two accounts. We will have a vocab test on Friday. Also, we will write our Biopoem this week. Anyone who hasn't turned in their Logo Piece needs to do that. It is a major assignment.

World History Jan 30 - Feb 3

This week is Access testing, but it shouldn't affect our class because none of you are scheduled to take it during 2nd Block. We will be studying the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire (yes, they are different) this week and the unit test over Ancient Greece and Rome will be Friday. Many of you did great on the mid-unit benchmark. Several 100's. Great job for those who studied.

World Literature Week of January 30 - February 3

Well, Access testing is upon us this week. Especially for World Literature, the testing is going to require some flexibility. On the days we have class, we will work on Gilgamesh, vocabulary, and grammar, but on the days of Access testing, when I am proctoring tests, you will work on learning about Sandra Cisneros, the author of The House on Mango Street, and begin familiarizing yourself with figurative language in preparation for reading the book.

I was very proud of you for sharing your Logo Pieces on Friday. Bravo! I learned so much more about each of you.

World History Week of January 23 - 27

We had our first unit test on Thursday. Hopefully, you were able to get an idea of what to expect for next time. I would suggest that you pay attention during our review games and be prepared to study. On Friday, I gave you a graphic organizer chart for River Valley Civilizations that will count up to 10 points toward your Unit 1 test grade and counts as a daily formative assignment. Please use this opportunity to improve your grade. We will begin the notes and activities for Unit 2, Greece and Rome, on Monday.

World Literature Week of January 23 - 27

We had our first Vocab Quiz on Thursday. Scores were very good. Good job. This week, we will learn about important literary terms, finish Gilgamesh, and work on vocabulary and grammar. Remember that your Logo Pieces are due Friday. I will give some time for you to work on them in class, but you will probably need to work on it at home as well.

World History Week of January 17 - 20

I hope you gave some thought to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. over the weekend. We will read an excerpt from his "I Have a Dream" Speech and write about it. On Tuesday, we will take the SLO in the computer lab. If there is time left, we will review for the test, which was going to be Wednesday, but will now be Thursday because of the SLO. We will do some review on Wednesday, but will also go ahead and start Unit 2 on the Greeks and Romans.

World Literature Week of January 17 - 20

I hope you all reflected on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. over the weekend. We will read part of the "I Have a Dream" speech this week and write about it. Because of the snow days last week, we did not have the SLO pre-test. We will do that on Wednesday. We will continue reading and analyzing Gilgamesh, working on sentence fragments and run-on sentences, and vocabulary. Remember that there is a vocab quiz on Wednesday. We will also get started reading The House on Mango Street.
