ESOL American Literature Week of October 23 - 27

Our main focus will be on preparing for our speeches, due November 2. We will look at some speeches in our textbook, as well as covering rhetorical appeals and techniques. We will have a summative test over The Crucible on Friday, October 27.

ESOL World Literature Week of October 23 - 27

This week we will complete Persepolis. As usual, we will have a vocabulary quiz on Monday, and a common formative assessment on Tuesday. We are focusing on preparing for the Argumentative Essay that will be due on November 2. I need everyone to turn in their T-charts on Monday. Remember that one piece of your Mango Street project is due Friday, October 27.

ESOL World History Week of October 23 - 27

We started Unit 7 on Asia, which is a mini-unit. The summative grade will be a combination of a final quiz and the group project that we started on Friday. You will have part of class Monday and Tuesday to work on the projects and present them. The quiz will be Wednesday, and then we will start on Unit 8, which is a super-unit that covers a whole lot of information. I will continue to post helpful links to this blog.

ESOL American Literature Week of October 16 - 20

We will focus on finishing The Crucible and Unit 2 for the next two weeks in preparation for writing and giving a speech. I will hand back your Unit 2 Embedded Assessment Synthesis papers on October 16, and we will discuss some of the skills we need to work on for the next writing assignment. We will have an Act 1 Quiz on Monday. We reviewed for it pretty extensively on Friday.

Remember that from now on, class will begin with ten minutes of independent reading. Get your books from the drawer and be ready to read when the bell rings.

ESOL World Literature Week of October 16 - 20

I had previously announced that the Mango Street project would be due on October 27. Because we have not read much of the novel, I am going to have the October 27 date be the due date for only one piece of the project. There are 3 assignments you must do, so I'll leave it up to you to decide which one to turn in first. The other 2 assignments will be due at the end of November, when we will have read more of the novel.

We will be focusing on finishing Persepolis and writing an argument in the next two weeks. Monday, October 16 will be the weekly vocabulary quiz.

World History Week of October 16 - 20

The test that was going to be Tuesday will now be Wednesday. We will do some extension activities on Monday and review on Tuesday. After the test on Wednesday, I will give you the new Word Wall words for Unit 7. The remainder of the week will be on introductory material (notes, activities) for Unit 7. I will be posting the review game for the Unit 6 test on Monday.

American Literature Week of October 9 - 13

We will continue to read The Crucible as well as watching the movie version of it as we go. We will have quizzes over Acts 1 and 3. We will also discuss rhetorical devices in preparation for our Embedded Assessment for Unit 2 which is giving a persuasive speech. I will continue to post links to power points, etc. as the week progresses.
