U.S. History Week of October 26 - 30

We have been discussing the time period between World War I and World War II this week, which includes the Jazz Age and the Great Depression. On Wednesday, I handed out a World War II packet and some questions. Several students were proactive and completed their questions quickly. On Thursday, we watched a documentary called "One Survivor" about a girl who survived a "death march" during the Holocaust. The assignment was to write at least 8 facts from the movie. Many students were deeply affected by the film and chose to write more than 8 facts. Tomorrow, we will continue with World War II. We will have a quiz on the Between the Wars notes on Tuesday. We will begin reviewing for it on Friday.

Friday is the final day of the 12 week grading period. Many of you are missing numerous assignments. Please get with me so that you can make up these assignments.

Algebra 1 Week of Oct 26 - 30

On Monday, we completed the Unit 1 Practice Test in class and began the learning 1 step equations from Unit 2A. On Tuesday, we briefly reviewed and then took the test. On Wednesday, we continued with 1 and multi-step equations. Thursday was mostly a grade recovery day, with opportunities for remediation on simplifying radicals and turning in missing work. On Friday, we will wrap up with multi-step equations. Friday is also the end of the 12 week grading period. If you are behind with assignments, you can come to me to discuss ways to get caught up.

US History Week of Oct 19 - 23

The tests from Domain 3 were great. Good job everyone. We began Domain 4 this week, which is the meatiest unit of the entire course. This unit includes WWI, the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Vietnam War. Whew! But at least it's all really interesting! We studied WWI the first part of the week and took a quiz today (Thursday.) We began talking about the time period between the World Wars today and will continue with that by taking cloze notes and watching the next 2 episodes of America: the Story of Us (Boom and Bust.)

U.S. History Week of Oct. 12-16

We finished up Domain III this week, culminating in a Domain test tomorrow. This has been a short, concise unit, which is a nice break between Domain II and Domain IV. After the test tomorrow, we will finish watching the America: The Story of Us episode about cities. Next Monday, we will begin Domain IV, which includes WWI, WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars. This will be an important unit to help us understand the world as it stands today.

Algebra 1 Week of October 12-16

On Monday we reviewed for the quiz and took the quiz on adding, subtracting, multiplying and simplifying radicals on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we did not meet for class because of pre-ACT testing. On Thursday, we reviewed combining like terms (addition and subtraction) with polynomials. Tomorrow, we will continue with adding and subtracting, review distributive property, and talk about multiplying polynomials. We are definitely learning new concepts very rapidly now. The review is over, so please come to class!

U.S. History Week of Oct 5 - Oct 9

Monday - We started by finishing the America: The Story of Us episode called Heartland, and turned in the cloze notes for a daily grade. Next, we made more progress on the notes for Industry and Growth in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Finally, we worked on the DBQ which is due tomorrow. I have announced several times that the DBQ is a project and counts the same as a test grade, so do your best work. Tomorrow, we will complete the notes and begin watching the movie Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee and complete some study questions as we watch it. Also, I will hand out some Discussion questions that I want you to think about as you watch. We will have a writing assignment based on one or more of these questions, so stay awake and put away the phones.

Tuesday through Friday we spent watching parts of Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee and answering the questions associated with the movie. We discussed some of the issues surrounding the events, including recent historical events that stem from the events at Wounded Knee. We finished the notes on Expansion and Big Business and took the quiz on Friday. We began the new notes on Imperialism and will continue them next week. The unit test for Domain III will be on Friday, October 16.

Algebra 1 Support Week of Oct 5 - Oct 9

On Monday, we completed the Quiz Review worksheet, took the Skills Check, and then took notes on Simplifying and Multiplying Radicals. The Quiz over Unit and Rate Conversions will be tomorrow. Study the Quiz Review worksheet to make sure you know how to do each type of problem.
Tuesday was the quiz over unit and rate conversions. Wednesday through Friday we learned the rules for simplifying, multiplying, adding and subtracting radicals. Monday will be a review of radicals, and we will have a quiz on radicals on Tuesday.

U.S. History Week of Sept. 28 - Oct 2

We are finishing up Domain II this week. Monday and Tuesday, we will finish up the Reconstruction period and review for the test, which will be Wednesday, Sept 30. On Thursday, we will write the outline for the Reconstruction DBQ, and on Friday we will begin writing the DBQ and start the notes for Domain III.
